The Stinger VIP NZ
The World’s Most Advanced Radar Detector
The Stinger VIP is not a radar detector you’ll find in a car accessory shop. It’s not reviewed on Amazon. It doesn’t have a suction cup. But it IS available here in New Zealand and is among the most capable pieces of driver protection technology ever built.
What Makes the Stinger VIP Different
Most radar detectors use a horn antenna — the same basic design used for decades. The Stinger VIP uses the S8-50 antenna, Stinger’s current-generation radar receiver, which takes a fundamentally different approach to signal processing. Rather than simply maximising sensitivity and leaving the driver to sort through false alerts, the S8-50 runs Stinger’s AI-based filtering system, designed to distinguish between genuine radar threats and the blind spot monitoring (BSM) systems now fitted to most modern vehicles.
The practical result: on a busy motorway surrounded by modern cars with active BSM — Subarus, BMWs, Mercedes, late-model Toyotas — the Stinger VIP stays quiet. A conventional detector in the same traffic would be alerting constantly. The S8-50’s filtering handles this without GPS lockout workarounds, which means it responds correctly to genuine threats even in locations it’s never been before.
Stinger VIP NZ — Permanently Installed, Completely Invisible
The VIP is a stealth install. Both radar antennas mount behind the front grille and rear bumper. The display integrates into the dashboard or sits flush where you choose. From outside the vehicle, there is nothing to see. From inside, there is no windscreen clutter — just a small display and the confidence that the system is working.
This is the radar detector of choice for high-specification European vehicles — the kind of car where a suction-cup device on the windscreen isn’t an option aesthetically or practically. Stinger is a Dutch manufacturer with a strong position in the European prestige vehicle market, and the VIP reflects that pedigree.
SpotList and Section Alerting
The VIP includes SpotList GPS alerting — a database of fixed speed camera locations — plus section alerting for average speed camera zones. Updates are handled via USB. No subscription, no app, no ongoing cost beyond the initial purchase.
Alert Logic — Simple by Design
The VIP’s colour display communicates in three states: green means clear, yellow means a suppressed or low-priority alert, red means act now. One glance, no interpretation required. If a rear antenna is fitted, the display also shows direction — front or rear — so you know exactly where a threat is coming from.
Professional Installation Required
The Stinger VIP is not a DIY product. Installation requires routing cables through the vehicle body, integrating the display into the interior, and configuring the system to the vehicle. We can refer you to professional installers in your area — contact us before purchasing.

Optional Rear Antenna
The Stinger VIP NZ configuration supports an optional rear antenna for complete 360° coverage. With a rear S8-50 fitted, the display differentiates between front and rear threats — essential for motorway driving where a patrol vehicle may be approaching from behind. Most customers start with a single front antenna; adding a rear unit is straightforward if the initial installation is planned for it.
Strip Display Option

For vehicles where a full touchscreen display isn’t the right fit, the Stinger VIP is also available with a strip display — a slim, low-profile unit that integrates almost invisibly into the dashboard or A-pillar. It carries the same colour-coded alert logic as the full display without the touchscreen interface. Some customers prefer it purely for aesthetics. Either display option runs the same underlying system — the choice is visual, not functional.
If you’re unsure which configuration suits your vehicle, contact us before purchasing. We can discuss your car, your driving, and the right Stinger VIP setup for both.
