What Happened to Beltronics in NZ?
Beltronics and Escort are the same company — Escort acquired Beltronics years ago and both brands continue to operate, sharing technology and manufacturing. In the United States, Beltronics still releases new products regularly. In New Zealand, the last Beltronics product to hit the market was the GT1 — and that was years ago.
The NZ distributor for Escort and Beltronics is Neltronics, originally based in Perth, Australia. They make the decisions about which products enter the New Zealand market — and Beltronics hasn’t been a priority for some time. The Escort brand has taken precedence, with the Redline 360c and MAX 360c being the current flagship products available here.
What About the Beltronics GT1?
The GT1 was the last Beltronics unit sold in New Zealand. It wasn’t a standout product — basic performance, limited filtering, and quickly overtaken by better options from Uniden and Genevo at similar price points. If you have one and it’s working, fine. There are now much better options available if you’re looking to upgrade.
What Should You Buy Instead?
Since Escort and Beltronics share the same technology, buying an Escort is effectively buying the best of what Beltronics has to offer — with current NZ stock, local warranty, and proper NZ firmware.

Will Beltronics Return to NZ?
Possibly — if a compelling new product is released in the US and Neltronics decides to bring it here. We’d stock it if they did. Until then, the Escort range is where the action is.
Is the Beltronics STI radar detector available in New Zealand?
The Beltronics STI was one of the most popular stealth radar detectors sold in New Zealand — designed to be undetectable by radar detector detectors. It was superseded by the Bel XRC and then XRC-plus. None of these are available through official NZ channels. If you’re looking for a stealth or low-profile detector, the Genevo Pro NZ is the closest equivalent from a budget perspective.
